$free 99
So part of the perks of being an EPIK (English Program In Korea) teacher is that we get free school lunches. Now, back in the States that would be disgusting to me and cause me to shiver with fear of all the saturated fats and excess sugar, but Korean food bares no resemblance to American greasy food. The food here is so rarely processed, so natural and organic. Honestly, I have felt a difference in my body already responding to the food change, which was surprising considering how picky I was as an eater back home and how strict I was about dietary restraints and nutrition. However, I am having trouble adjusting to some of the CRAZY dishes that are served for lunch at my school each day. Any one who knows me knows that I don't have the most diverse pallet when it comes to food, but I've been doing my best to try at least a little of EVERYTHING I am given. Just because it looks like magnified, processed sperm doesn't mean it will taste as bad as it looks.. right? Well, I'm starting to find that if it looks crazy, it probably tastes crazy! I'm really enjoying the food at restaurants and the change in cuisine the culture offers. I mean, this lunch only costing $free 99 has been great, but I've only been eating about 3 of the 5 selections they give us each day. I'm hoping that maybe the longer I'm here, the more they will start to repeat things so that I will know what I like, and what I don't. Because if I attempt to eat one more side dish that tastes like something from under a sea-salty rock, I'm going to vomit in my kimchi.
